Top five essential foods for the Brain

The brain is one of the most important parts of our body. It also works continuously for 24 hours every day, even while we sleep. This means that we need to fuel the brain with the right foods to ensure optimum brain health as this is vital in playing a role not just on our overall health but also on our overall moods and feelings.

  1. FISH

60% of our brain is made up of fats. Fatty fish contain good amounts of omega 3 fatty acids and play an important role in maintaining and having good brain health.

  1. NUTS AND SEEDS

All of the nuts are sources of good fats and Vitamin E and are hence very beneficial for the brain health and improving the focus.

Seeds like pumpkin seeds are high in micronutrients like zinc, iron, magnesium, and copper which not only help in improving the brain function, memory, and learning but also lower the risk of various neurological disorders.

Other seeds like sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, flax seeds and chia seeds also contain the good fats and are essential for brain health.

  1. EGGS

Eggs are rich sources of protein and contain Vitamin B6, Vitamin B 12 and Choline. The Vitamins B 6 and B 12 help in lowering the risk of neurological degeneration and also in promoting stress relief and mental acuity.  Choline improves the mental function, brain development, and memory and it is worthwhile to note that the egg yellow contains the choline. So, the egg needs to be eaten whole – do not discard the yellow part.

  1. BROCCOLI

Broccoli is a rich source of antioxidants, chlorophyll and Vitamin K. It helps in improving the memory and protects the brain against damage.

  1. TURMERIC

The active component of turmeric is curcumin and it has the ability to pass through the blood-brain barrier in the brain. In addition to its anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant functions, it has also proven to show remarkable improvements in memory in Alzheimer’s patients, helps new brain cells to grow and also relieves stress and lowers the depression rates.
